What I Wore: Spring Break

Tropical getaways aren’t really my go-to vacation, but my girlfriend was born and raised in Hawaii and so we hop over to the islands every now and again to visit her family and enjoy the change of scenery. Like any person with Scottish and Irish blood, I don’t do great in the sun and heat so I’m always looking to keep cool and somewhat protected from the harsh sun.

I’m a big fan of this short-sleeve shirt (the only one I own) from Proper Cloth, made in a wonderful printed fabric. It’s light and crisp, without feeling too thin. These J. Crew chinos are a favorite too – this is an old pair in a fit they no longer make, and I just wish that I got to wear them more often. The slip-on shoes by Seavees are definitely a derivation from my normal style, but they were a photography sample I ended up with a few years ago and have kept around for occasions like these (the linen uppers give them a nice summery vibe, as well). Lastly, my trusty Maratac is great for wearing on the beach or at the pool, due to its sporty look, easy-to-read dial, and solid water resistance.
